The Elements of Flow

Taking the intangible “elements” of both our collective conscious and unconscious experiences as humans, and capturing the essence of those given elements in a visual form. The box represents a symbol for isolation, or something that has been captured, and the form inside represents the captured element of consciousness. Every piece is unique in form, each meant to depict an image of “flow state”. Each piece is named by assigning an isolated “Elemental Number”, like a serial number, forever individualizing them, but also keeping them sequenced. Together they form a table of elements, while individually they represent isolated snapshots of specific engagements into sessions of “flow state”. The forms exist with one foot in reality, and the other in the ether, meant to act as a bridge between the conscious and unconscious, becoming a literal and visual interpretation of the state of consciousness known as flow.

The Elements of Flow (Sketches)

Each one of these works is literally and figuratively a captured or isolated representation of an event of engagement into flow state. It’s me sitting down, entering in flow state, improvising a shape within this box, and at the end there is a figure staring back at me as a physical depiction of that flow state that was just achieved. You could say this about any piece of art, regardless of subject or genre, but these are that by design, almost a literal depiction of the act of flow, or at least that’s what they’re meant to be. These forms have infinite potential, not just for me but for anyone who chooses to create one. The goal is to depict flow, and induce it with the same image, at the same time. These can very in development, as they could be a quick 10 minute sketch, or a multi-session large scale painting. They can be planned or improvised.

My goal is to keep creating these elements throughout my life, hundreds, thousands of elements - letting the forms evolve as they may. I’m currently working on the first volume of “The Elements of Flow” Art Book. Stay tuned!
