Series Works
A collection of series works, forever ongoing…
Each one of these works is literally and figuratively a representation of a singular journey into flow state. By design, these works are meant to portray a literal depiction of the act of flow. These forms have infinite potential, not just for me but for anyone who chooses to create one. The goal is to depict flow, as well as induce it with the same image, at the same time.
My goal is to keep creating these elements throughout my life, hundreds, thousands of elements - letting the forms evolve as they may. I’m currently working on the first volume of “The Elements of Flow” Art Book. - Stay tuned!
Early in my painting journey, through the process of self discovery, three pieces emerged over a few months that seemed to go together. They held the secrets to an emerging artistic vision. I decided to call the series “Origins, because not only did they fuel some early confidence that I could in fact do this and that my process was leading me somewhere, but they continue to inspire me to this day - holding so much energy within them.
In my mind these landscapes exist in the same universe, and when making them I often approach it that way. These places come from dreams, made up, untethered, and non-existent in the reality we experience everyday, but much like dreams, they borrow elements from everyday life.
The Artist, The Writer, and The Musician… These pieces are manifestations of my inner self. Throughout my life, these three personas have all been there, each taking the driver seat at different times, but all of them informing each other simultaneously. These may as well be self portraits, as they are a more accurate depiction of “me” than even a photograph would be able to portray.
This series was made to convey the feeling of alienation - whether that be self induced or stemming from peers, the feeling of being an outsider can be difficult. This “alien” creature is not from our world, but experiences this feeling of loneliness the same way that many of us experience that feeling in our world. It can be overwhelming, constantly feeling divorced from the norm… but solitude as well as self reflection is often what leads to genuine authentic creative expression. After all, we outsiders find, make and fuel our own communities, and we keep things interesting and unique.
Implosion:Explosion - (Combustion Abstractions)
Designed to get the viewer interested in the painting itself instead of the subject matter of the painting. The subject becomes shape and color, which all things known and unknown are made of. The story is told through the paint, showing that paint as a medium can also be a subject, and that shape and color even when deconstructed, can captivate and cultivate interest. These works are made to draw the viewer in. Hypnotic, mesmerizing, and inviting by design. Whether or not they’re exploding or imploding or something else entirely is up for interpretation…
Objects of Energy - (Suspended Abstractions)
Depictions of Energy as Objects.
Energy, trapped and captured in these arrangements, solidified forever in paint.
Multi-Dimensional Abstractions
Attempting to take what the impressionists did with light; the expressionists with feeling, the cubists with time, and what the abex painters did with energy and combine them all into one. Multi-Perspective Convergence. The human experience of sensation abstracted.
